The Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame is entrusted with the tasks of preservation, documentation, research and putting on display of objects, photographs and printed material relating to ice hockey in Finland. It operates in close partnership with the Museum Department of the City of Tampere and the Sports Museum of Finland.

The collections have been accumulating since 1979. Donators include the Finnish Ice Hockey Association, SM-liiga (the Finnish ice hockey league) and the International Ice Hockey Federation as well as many hockey clubs and private individuals.

The collections include over 25,000 artifacts, 30,000 photographs and 700 hockey jerseys as well as posters, video recordings, printed publications and documents. The Finnish Hockey Hall of Fame also has a reference library for the use of researchers.
